Empowering the Future of Cybersecurity in Emerging Technologies
Led by Dr. Srini Sampalli, a distinguished Professor and 3M National Teaching Fellow from Dalhousie University, the NSERC CREATE Cybersecurity Program is a pioneering initiative funded by a $1.6 million grant. This program is designed to address the growing challenges in cybersecurity posed by emerging technologies, taking a comprehensive approach that integrates research, training, and education.
Our multidisciplinary team includes experts from the Faculties of Computer Science, Law, Management, and Science at Dalhousie University, along with researchers from Memorial University of Newfoundland and partners like the MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance. Together, we aim to predict, detect, and prevent cyber-attacks while fostering ethical and governance practices around cybersecurity.
Industry Collaboration for Real-World Impact
In collaboration with industry leaders such as Calian, Field Effect, IBM, Pure Logic, and PINQ2, our program is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic research and industry needs. Over the next six years, we will train nearly 200 highly qualified personnel, positioning Nova Scotia as a hub for cybersecurity innovation. This initiative aligns with Nova Scotia's Digital Ecosystem Strategy and NATO's Defence Innovation Accelerator (DIANA), making it a vital part of Canada's cybersecurity future.
Supporting the Next Generation of Cybersecurity Experts
The NSERC CREATE Cybersecurity Program is part of a larger funding initiative from NSERC, which has allocated $26 million across 16 innovative training programs nationwide. These programs aim to prepare the next generation of researchers and professionals to meet Canada's most pressing science and technology challenges.
Participants in the program will benefit from hands-on training, professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities designed to enhance their problem-solving abilities, technical expertise, and job readiness. This program is not just about training; it's about shaping the future of cybersecurity for a safer digital world.
